Buddhist Prayers for Healing, Living, and Dying

º Prayers º

For quick help choosing a prayer, please look at the bottom of the “Home” page. For guidance in choosing prayers for specific purposes, go to the “FAQ” page. For special activities that only occur once a year, please look at the “Annual Activities” page. If you are unable to make an offering but would like to be included in any of the prayers, please send your name(s) to [email protected].

According to the Tibetan calendar, there are 6 special days each month that are connected to certain deities and practices. These are considered to be particularly auspicious for doing spiritual practice, sponsoring prayers and making offerings. In addition to chanting the regular daily prayers on these days, a large assembly of monastics will perform an extensive pūjā (a ceremony that includes prayer, offerings, mantra recitation, etc).

Here are the 6 days and the pūjās performed: 8th day of the Tibetan month: Tārā Day and Medicine Buddha Day (Wealth Pūjā) // 10th day: Guru Rinpoche Day (Padmasaṃbhava Pūjā) // 15th day: Full Moon Day (White Amitāyus Pūjā for long life) // 25th day: Dakini Day (Chöd Pūjā and Kurukullā Pūjā) // 29th day: Dharmapala Day (Dharma Protector Pūjā) // 30th day: Śākyamuni Buddha Day and New Moon Day (Ocean of Amṛta – Ngakso Pūjā).
