About

Mipham Jamyang Namgyal Gyamtso (1846–1912) (widely known as Mipham Rinpoche) was a great scholar and practitioner in the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism and also one of the leading figures in the Ri-me (non-sectarian) movement in Tibet. He wrote over 32 texts on topics such as logic, philosophy, tantra, medicine, the visual arts, and poetry. He is considered to be the reincarnation of the Bodhisattva Mañjuśhrī.  The majority of Nyingma scholars, including those at Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling monastery, rely on the commentaries of Mipham Rinpoche to comprehend the root texts.

The Mawey Senge Pūjā (Great Lion’s Roar Pūjā) is performed to mark the day of Mipham Rinpoche’s Parinirvāṇa each year on the 29th day of the auspicious fourth month (Saga Dawa) of the Tibetan lunar calendar.  Mawey Senge is one of Guru Rinpoche’s 12 manifestations and signifies wisdom.

Shedra monks perform the Mawey Senge Pūjā in the Mañjuśhrī Hall at the monastery. During the pūjā, Mañjuśhrī sadhanas and sutras are recited as a remembrance to Mipham Rinpoche, and also to gain the wisdom and knowledge that leads to Enlightenment.

This pūjā is very beneficial for students and scholars in particular, and for anyone who wishes to develop clarity, intelligence, and wisdom to accomplish anything in life. The Mawey Senge Pūjā is often performed to mark the inauguration of an academic institution.

May everyone rejoice in this noble and virtuous event and dedicate the merit for the benefit of all sentient beings.
