Lhabab Düchen, November 11, 2025, marks the 1 year anniversary of the inauguration of the Thousand Buddha Temple in Lumbini, Nepal, birthplace of the Buddha Śakyamuni. To celebrate this auspicious anniversary, there will be a Recitation of the Collected Words of the Buddha in Pali, Chinese, Tibetan, and English. These precious teachings are not only for Buddhist followers but are a world heritage belonging to everyone. The wisdom of the Buddha is especially relevant in the 21st century because science matches well with this timeless insight and together they can meet the challenges of our times. A great gathering devoted to reading aloud the Buddha’s teachings of wisdom and compassion illuminates our world and brings peace and insight to all.
The Recitation of the Collected Words of the Buddha will be held in conjunction with the 45th Annual Seminar by Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche, and will begin on Lhabab Düchen, November 11, and conclude on November 17. Lhabab Düchen is one of the 4 major festivals in the Tibetan Buddhist calendar and commemorates the descent of Śākyamuni Buddha from heaven to earth. The effects of positive and negative actions are thought to be multiplied 10 million times on this day! Therefore, it is an excellent day to perform virtuous deeds.
Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche has said that reciting the Collected Words of the Buddha periodically helps to continue the Buddha’s influence in this world as there can be no influence without the words. Rinpoche also says, “It is necessary to practice what Buddha has stated, yet it is difficult to practice if one is not able to even read it. So, first read, then study, practice, and ultimately implement.”
When the Collected Words of the Buddha are recited, it helps all sentient beings benefit from the Buddha’s teachings and is also an excellent way to accumulate a lot of merit. All of the Buddha’s statements are the truth and reciting the truth purifies negative thoughts and emotions and increases knowledge and merit. This ultimately helps sentient beings overcome all obstacles and achieve all aspirations.
May the virtue of anyone who rejoices in this auspicious activity be dedicated to the Enlightenment of all sentient beings.
